Product details
Minimoog Model D was originally released in 1970 and was the world's first portable synthesiser. It served as the archetype for all subsequent electronic keyboards. The fully analogue instrument was praised for combining the colossal sound of the modular Moog synthesizers from the 1960s with the accessibility of pre-wired modules - meaning it could be played instantly and intuitively without the need for patch cables. It was quickly adopted into the arsenal of a wide range of musicians, with artists such as Herbie Hancock, Kraftwerk, Rick Wakeman, Sun Ra, Piero Umiliani, Giorgio Moroder, Bernie Worrell and Gary Numan all using it to shape unique sounds and forge new musical genres with the instrument.
More than half a century since its invention, the Minimoog Model D is back in production at the Moog factory in Asheville, North Carolina. An exceptional sonic tool and one of the most popular and iconic synthesisers ever created, it returns to the hands of synth players and serves as inspiration for the next generation of electronic music.
The three-oscillator monophonic analogue synthesizer is securely housed in an Appalachian cherry wood cabinet and handcrafted aluminium chassis. Its legendary low-pass ladder filter, powerful oscillators and richly saturating mixer sound as lively and deep as ever, retaining the exact component placement and solder-board design of a 1970s Minimoog Model D.
Although no changes have been made to the original sound engine or audio signal path, the 2022 Minimoog Model D includes a number of popular functional modifications that expand the sonic capabilities of this legendary instrument. These modifications include a dedicated analogue LFO with sawtooth and square waveforms, a premium Fatar keyboard with velocity and aftertouch that can be tapped via CV sockets on the top panel with integrated trimpots, MIDI integration and a mixer feedback modification that allows the Minimoog Model D to overdrive the output signal in a controlled manner. And, for the first time in its history, the Minimoog Model D now features a spring-loaded pitch wheel with a centre detent for improved playability and an even more intuitive performance.
