Fujifilm LTO universal cleaning cartridges are equipped with a computer memory chip, similar to data tapes. The chip stores various information and has an embedded code recognized by the compatible drive's firmware. Once the cleaning cartridge is used to capacity (15 to 50 uses, depending on the drive), the drive will no longer accept the cleaning tape and will eject it, prohibiting further use.
