Linear Tape-Open (LTO) is an open format tape storage technology developed collaboratively by HP, IBM, and Quantum. Compared to the seventh LTO generation, LTO-8 offers more than double the storage capacity. An LTO-8 tape can natively store up to 12 TB and compressed up to 30 TB. Like most previous LTO generations, it supports WORM cartridges, encryption, and the LTFS format.
