The lens is designed for cameras with 35mm full frame sensor for optimal photo and video shooting. It is ideal for Nikon Z series mirrorless cameras with high pixel count. Samyang's 85mm lens is an ideal focal length for portraits and focuses on the essentials. On a full-frame camera, its 28.3° angle of view delivers optimal concentration on the subject. When the 85/1.4 is attached to a Nikon APS-C camera, an angle of view of 19° is effective, which roughly corresponds to the image impression of a 126 mm lens. The lens is very well corrected and convinces with very good and distortion-free imaging performance. The very compact design provides a comfortable handling with a balanced center of gravity. The lens is equipped with an internal focusing system and offers a closest focusing distance of 1.0m. With 9 lenses in 7 groups, it is very elaborately built, calculated for optimal performance already at open aperture. When focusing, the corresponding lens elements are shifted internally: the overall length of the optics therefore does not change, and the 72mm filter thread does not rotate when focusing. The iris diaphragm features 8 blades and thus a nearly circular aperture image. Of course, all lens surfaces are multi-coated to increase the contrast of the images and to avoid reflections if necessary. Everything is rounded off by precise mechanics, clear click-stop aperture values in half f-stops, and manufacturing in a high-quality metal mount. This makes the camera and lens a harmonious duo. The high-quality 85mm F1.4 lens has a compact design despite the solid metal housing. The focus ring is matte, which not only suits the lens well, but also provides the photographer with a good grip. The lens features Samyang weather protection and can withstand snow or light rain showers. The Samyang MF 14mm F2.8 is designed for full-frame. Since a correspondingly smaller section of the lens' full-frame image circle hits the sensor, the angle of view is also a smaller one (28.3° for full-frame, 19° for APS-C on Nikon).
