- Lens construction and achievable image quality are very good. The new lens also scores points with its high AF performance and convenient operation.
- It is recognisable at some points that the focus was on cost-effective production. This includes the somewhat rough focal length adjustment.
The very low price of the lens should be emphasised, as the standard zoom is a real bargain at 699 euros. In return, the customer is offered a pleasing performance. As a fast alternative for an everyday lens, it delivers appealing images and equally good videos.

- Flexible focal length range
- High luminous intensity
- Extremely fast autofocus
- No image stabiliser
The standard zoom shows in the test lab that it is also a real upgrade compared to the Nikon model in terms of resolution. Here, the lens plays in a league that is usually only reached by high-quality fixed focal lengths. In the test, the lightning-fast and precise autofocus, which performs its tasks unerringly even with moving lenses, was also really impressive...

- The standard zoom lens from Tamron comes with a high-quality finish and excellent value for money.
- The lens works without its own image stabilisation. Sony full-frame E cameras, however, have an integrated stabiliser via sensor shift.
Tamron shows that even very good lenses can gain considerably by being revised and equipped with additional functions. The 28-75mm F/2.8 Di IlI VXD G2 is an excellent example of this, convincing with its high resolution and other plus points.
When Tamron relaunches its standard zoom, we are always particularly excited and expectations are high. Version III costs 950 euros - and delivers as expected. At 28 mm, the resolution at both measured apertures is a good 2500 LP - a good, if not top value. At 46 mm, the resolution in the centre unfortunately drops by 160 LP (aperture 2.8) and 110 LP (aperture 5.6), but the contrast remains very high...

- Very good resolution
- Hardly any distortion & vignetting
- Programmable focus hold button
- USB-C port
- Compact, robust design
- Without integrated stabiliser

In terms of resolution and features, the G2 of the Tamron 2.8/28-75 mm Di III VXD has made gains.
