Product details
They stand for dance, sweat, closeness, freedom and a temporary loss of control, but an involuntary silence has returned to what used to be the loudest places in the city since the start of the pandemic. For their book, Staggat and Stein visited over 40 Berlin electro clubs from April to December 2020 and interviewed the often forgotten faces of this crisis: the club manager, the barman, the booker, the DJane, the toilet attendant, the doorman and the caretaker. On their club quarantine tour, they came across people who are not only fighting for their jobs, but also fear losing their homes. They met them in places that were created for people, but also work without them. At first glance, "HUSH" is a book about clubs in the coronavirus crisis; at second glance, it is a book about what home can also be. Staggat and Stein met enterprising, desperate, but also crisis-proof characters, who not only willingly gave an insight into their situation, but also into their rooms. They descended into old breweries, entered power stations, suburban railway arches, park roofs, detached houses, signal boxes, backyards, cellar vaults, boats and coach houses. Lost places with history - spaces that emerged mainly in the eastern part of Berlin after reunification. At a time when party pioneers opened up derelict industrial landscapes and turned them into places of creativity and freedom. The result is a contemporary document with high-quality photographs and texts that provides exclusive insights into a unique subculture. "HUSH" captures what may no longer exist in this diversity after the crisis.
