Ace, a brave little race car, unexpectedly appears in Sodor and persuades Thomas the Tank Engine to embark on an ambitious journey: Thomas could become the first steam engine to travel around the world.

Excited, Thomas sets off on his adventure. His journey takes him through deserts, jungles, and over dangerous mountains. He travels across five continents and past sights he has never seen before. Along the way to new places and cultures, Thomas befriends Nia, a daring and fun-loving engine from Kenya. As Thomas tries to keep up with the speedy race car Ace on his journey around the globe, he learns many interesting things about various places in the world. Nia stays by his side, trying to show Thomas the meaning of true friendship.
