Petzl Belay Device Grigri 2 - The Petzl belay device Grigri 2 offers enhanced braking power for ropes ranging from 8.9 to 11 mm. When used correctly, it ensures optimal safety, regardless of the belayer's strength. Its operation is similar to that of a seatbelt system: the device brakes under sudden load.

Belaying is performed like with a conventional belay device: the belayer holds both hands on the rope. To catch a fall, the brake rope is firmly grasped with one hand. When catching the fall, the belayer holds the free end of the rope, causing the friction cam to rotate, clamp the rope, and thereby increase the braking force until the rope is completely locked.

The Petzl belay device Grigri 2 ensures excellent braking control. One hand grips the rope while the other releases the friction cam using the lever. Thanks to the patented design of this lever, the release can occur in small increments. Combined with the strong braking force of the friction cam, it provides the user with a great sense of safety when lowering a climbing partner or during a rappel.
