Daylight at the touch of a button: the TL 100 is a mood enhancer with extras
The TL 100 from Beurer shines like a little sun in my study. The light therapy lamp scores points with its dimmer function, timer and associated app.
In the gloomy months, when the days are short and grey, many people struggle with listlessness and a depressed mood. Daylight lamps are one solution. They simulate the lack of sunlight. Daily use in the morning is particularly effective: you can regulate your biorhythm, brighten your mood and recharge your batteries - without any side effects and with minimal effort.

The Beurer TL 100: a sun for your desk
With its round shape alone, the TL 100 is reminiscent of a small sun that you can simply place on your desk
But it is a sun with special functions: Firstly, the light intensity can be regulated via 10 levels, and secondly, the lighting duration can be set via a timer. You can also use the lamp as a mood light and choose the light colour yourself or simply let the mood light change colour.

With a size of 366 x 335 x 203 mm, the TL 100 still fits well on my desk and offers an illumination area of 33 cm in diameter. The design of the light therapy lamp is kept simple; in addition to the on/off button at the top of the lamp, there are two buttons (+ and -) to the right of it to regulate the light intensity. You can also use the on/off button to switch on the colour change and select the desired colour. The timer function is operated and displayed on the base. All functions can also be controlled via the "Beurer LightUp" app. It is compatible with Apple and Android.
If you're now thinking: "So what? I don't need all that." Then a smaller, cheaper model without the bells and whistles might be more suitable for you. You can read the TL 20 product test here:
More than just a daylight lamp
The TL 100, on the other hand, is also suitable as a reading lamp that doesn't tire the eyes so quickly. However, the manufacturer points out that you should only use it for this purpose up to level 5. The moodlight function, on the other hand, can also be set to full power. The regulation is very simple: To set it, press the on/off button for two seconds, then the colour change starts and it goes off again in the same way. If you want to set one of the colour lights permanently during the colour change, simply press the same button again briefly.

Personally, I have hardly ever used the timer function for the simple reason that I usually leave the lamp on for longer than the maximum time that can be set. However, I only dare to do this because the TL 100 is equipped with LEDs as a light source and I'm not afraid of a horrendous electricity bill.
As a general rule, the further the distance from the lamp, the longer the application time should be in order to feel an effect. At a distance of 10 cm and therefore 10000 lux illuminance, half an hour is sufficient. At a distance of about 40 cm (which I usually have), the illuminance is reduced to 2500 lux and the manufacturer recommends an application time of two hours. If you want to control this precisely, the timer function makes perfect sense. You can time the lamp in 15-minute increments from 15 to 120 minutes.

If you're interested in my experiences with light therapy in general, you can read about them in my series of experiments. I treated myself to a daily light shower for a fortnight and you can find out whether it improved my mood and alertness here:
