Galaxus Wallflowers: why does nobody want Huawei’s Ultimate Design smartwatch?

Galaxus Wallflowers: why does nobody want Huawei’s Ultimate Design smartwatch?

On the one hand, you have stars and starlets. On the other, you have the bench players. And in the Galaxus product range, it’s no different. Some items live out a shadowy existence, unnoticed by the public. Such as the Ultimate Design smartwatch by Huawei.

In the 1960s, Andy Warhol coined the expression «15 minutes of fame», thus suggesting that in a future world, everyone would be world famous for a little while. Anyone and everyone? Not quite. There are some who never make it into the limelight. Not even for fifteen minutes. Such as the Ultimate Design smartwatch by Huawei. But that’s going to change now, at least for a few minutes. It’s not like it has to be 15.

Times a-tickin’ for this watch

Why isn’t this product shifting? Is the obscene price tag to blame or the patchy availability? Could be either. But maybe it’s down to the indistinct target group. After all, this smartwatch appears to be a model made for maritime activities. At least that’s what it says in the product description:

Huawei Watch Ultimate Design is your safe harbour in stormy seas, with its rudder-like black nanocrystal ceramic bezel and six 18K gold inlays, shining beacons guiding you through the night! Strap it round your wrist – it’s ready to make a splash!

Someone’s been diving deep into the marketing blurb ocean. Confusingly, the product images also include the one below. Wait, so what’s this watch for? Sailing, swimming and surfing or hiking and mountaineering? I really don’t get it.

Sailors or mountaineers – please make up your mind.

But perhaps this smartwatch is simply not getting any attention because of the typos. After all, the product description in German refers to the company as «Huawel» and the product as «Ulimate Design». I think I now get why nobody wants to buy it. «I wear my 3,000-franc Ulimate Design by Huawel when I go to the swimming pool,» just doesn’t have a very sexy ring to it.

The wallflower watch

Type smartwatch into our shop’s search bar and you’ll currently be presented with almost 18,000 products to choose from. These are generally sorted according to relevance. In other words, watches that sell best and are readily available are at the top before things steadily go downhill. You can find out how products are sorted and displayed here. Simply put, it all comes down to:

  • search query accuracy
  • users’ search and shopping habits
  • availability and estimated delivery time
  • popularity and novelty
  • attractiveness and price

After taking all these criteria into consideration, Ultimate Design by Huawei is floating around in no-man’s land. Face it, Ultimate Design, your time’s run ot. Pardon the typo, I mean out.

The Galaxus range is home to products that nobody sees, nobody knows and nobody wants. But even these bench players deserve a little attention. That’s why I’ve taken it upon myself to showcase our Galaxus wallflowers from time to time.
