Jimmy BX7 Pro tested: Dust, mites and dirt vacuumed out of the bed

The Jimmy BX7 Pro vacuums mattresses and sofas with plenty of power. It does a lot better than the cheaper competition - but the surcharge is also quite high.

So much dust, mites and dirt in my mattress? I could hardly believe it. Six months ago, I tested an anti-mite hoover from Hoover. And vacuumed an astonishing amount out of my beds. One question that remained unanswered at the time: what does it look like after six months? Is it even worth vacuuming the mattresses more than every few years?

As luck would have it, I once again had the opportunity to test such a vacuum cleaner. It was from the Jimmy brand. Although we have had the hoover specialists' appliances in our range for some time, Jimmy now also has an official presence in Switzerland with marketing activities and a repair service.

For the test, I had the opportunity to test a Jimmy vacuum cleaner.

The manufacturer provided me with the new Jimmy BX7 Pro, the flagship in the anti-mite hoover range, for testing.

After six months, vacuuming is worth it again

Of course, I'm curious to see if I can test the Jimmy BX7 Pro at all. Or whether all the mattresses are still pore-deep clean after my cleaning campaign in summer 2023. Quickly unpack and vacuum a mattress corner as a test: the dirt container immediately fills up again with dust and particles.

First realisation: I don't just buy an anti-mite hoover for a big clean, I can use it regularly. So I vacuum the double bed mattress, which I cleaned thoroughly six months ago. The first time I used it, I filled half the dirt container. Now it's significantly less, but still a surprising amount.

No wonder: mites live in every home and in all mattresses, blankets, pillows, upholstered furniture and carpets. Up to 4,000 of these arachnids can be found in one gram of bed dust. That's a lot of dust and dirt being produced.

The operation is simple and straightforward

The Jimmy BX7 Pro is not technically complicated. Just two buttons make operation child's play. I connect the vacuum cleaner to the power supply, switch it on with one button and change the mode with the other: I can either just vacuum - or also activate the UV lamp and brush.

In everyday life, I switch on all three cleaning options whenever possible for the best cleaning result. You can see which mode is currently running on a screen on the nozzle. It's ideally positioned because I always have this area in view when cleaning anyway. The screen also shows how many particles are currently being sucked in. The redder the display, the more worthwhile it is to drive over this area a little more slowly and perhaps a second time.

The Jimmy is more expensive, but also better

At 190 francs or 170 euros, the Jimmy BX7 Pro is currently significantly more expensive than many of its competitors. For example, the Hoover MBC 500 UV 011 mentioned above, which I tested last summer. It cost 120 francs or euros at the time, but is now only 90 francs or 100 euros.

In fact, the basic functions are identical, even if the Jimmy with 700 watts has a stronger suction power than the Hoover with 500 watts. To be honest, I didn't notice much of this during testing.

Nevertheless, there are differences. The Jimmy has a modern look, while the Hoover is reminiscent of the technical devices of the 80s and 90s made of rough hard plastic. While the Jimmy BX7 Pro achieves a tolerable volume of just under 70 decibels, the Hoover makes audibly more noise at over 75 decibels.

The more expensive model also has advantages in the details: The dust container is slightly larger, the lock is smoother. And the brush is easier to clean, as you don't have to loosen a screw first like with the Hoover.

The brush is also gentler on textiles. While the coarse bristles of the Hoover have loosened the seams on an old mattress, this is not the case with the Jimmy. The bristles are much softer and there are additional silicone slats for coarse bristles.

In a nutshell

The surcharge hurts

This is what I have learnt from the test: I vacuumed my mattresses for the first time ever in the summer, and now for a second time. And it really does seem to be worth doing this twice a year. There is certainly enough dust and particles after this time.

Whether you need the rather expensive Jimmy BX7 Pro for this, however, is something you have to decide for yourself. The significantly lower noise level, the dust sensor with LED display and the larger dirt container are clear arguments for me to spend more money. Maybe you can share the appliance with friends and family and split the investment that way.

Even though the Jimmy BX7 Pro does many things better than the cheaper older model from Hoover, there is still room for improvement. For example, emptying the dust container on both models is quite tedious. Before you can remove the container, you first have to pull out the filter and a nozzle.

In addition, both models lack a Hepa filter - there is only a certificate from England stating that the vacuum cleaner is useful for allergy sufferers. In other words, although they will certainly benefit from such intensive cleaning, they should leave the vacuuming to someone else.

Pro

  • Strong suction power
  • Textile-friendly brush
  • LED display with dust sensor
  • Quite quiet in operation
  • Easy cleaning

Contra

  • High price
  • No Hepa filter
