Me and model making: pride goes before a fall

Model making has fascinated me since I was a kid. However, until now, I’ve never trusted myself to build a model from scratch. And there’s a good reason for that. I failed miserably the first time.

For some time now, I’ve been obsessed with model making videos on YouTube. I can spend hours watching random people build detailed vehicles and beautiful landscapes on a small scale. I’m always amazed at how easy it is for them and how great the final result looks.

I wanted to find out if building a model would give me as much satisfaction as watching the videos. So I bought myself a model kit and got cracking. Want to know how it went? Check out the header video. For English subtitles, click the gear icon, «Subtitles/CC» and «Auto-translate» in the video.

Unsurprisingly, I totally overestimated my talent. After building a miniature chair and a woefully wonky wardrobe, I threw in the towel. Not even my magnifying glasses could change that.

But I won’t put up with this defeat. Model making still fascinates me, and I’m more than ever willing to acquire the skills needed for it. But where should I start? Are you a model making pro? If so, I’d be very grateful for any useful tips left in the comments. I desperately need them!
