MWC 2022: Nokia presents three very affordable smartphones
Nokia unveiled three new smartphones at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona: Nokia C2 2nd Edition, Nokia C21 and Nokia C21 Plus. However, the manufacturer still has to wait for a new top smartphone.
Nokia's low-priced C-series smartphones are primarily aimed at so-called emerging markets. In Germany, the devices are especially worth a look if the low price is the most important criterion when buying a smartphone.
Western Europe not in focus for C series
For Nokia, the low-priced smartphones seem to be a lucrative business. At least HMD Global, the company behind the brand, is currently focusing on them. In the "emerging markets", which are poorer countries, Florian Seiche (CEO of HMD Global) expects great growth. There, the aim is to replace feature phones with low-cost smartphones.

In addition, better devices are not ready for release at the moment. However, they would appear at a later date. However, the Nokia 8.3 5G is already two years old as the last top smartphone of the brand - if the presentation at MWC 2020 and not the sales launch in fall 2020 serves as orientation. In contrast, the Nokia X20 and XR20 released after that are mid-range smartphones.

All three smartphones are equipped with the "Go Edition" of Android 11 ex-factory. This variant of Google's operating system is intended for inexpensive smartphones with rudimentary features. Nokia promises to provide the three C-series models with security updates for two years. There will not be an update to Android 12.

Another argument against the newly introduced smartphones is that their micro-USB port is no longer up-to-date. Even the 3.5 mm port for headphones does not compensate for that. On the other hand, the fact that they all only support 4G is rather acceptable.
Price and availability
The Nokia C21 and C21 Plus should be available from the second quarter. Nokia gives a recommended retail price of 119 and 129 euros or francs for the smartphones. The C2 2nd Edition is not slated for sale here.
Nokia G11 and G21
Two weeks before the MWC, Nokia has introduced two more entry-level smartphones, the G11 and G21, which are a bit more expensive. In return, they are better equipped and should soon receive the update to Android 12.

When I was but a young student, I'd sit in my friend's living room with all my classmates and play on his SuperNES. Since then I've had the opportunity to test out all the newest technology for you. I've done reviews at Curved, Computer Bild and Netzwelt, and have now arrived at Galaxus.de.
