Olympus E-M5 III: Compact and weatherproof

The latest camera from Olympus is not a revolution. But it is interesting for anyone looking for a small and robust system camera.
With dimensions of around 125 mm x 85 mm x 50 mm, the Olympus E-M5 III is one of the most compact system cameras. It also weighs just 414 grams with battery and SD card. Despite its compact dimensions, the camera has a built-in image stabiliser which, according to the manufacturer, compensates for 5.5 exposure steps.
The housing is protected against dust and splash water and is frost-proof. Olympus has slightly enlarged the grip and thumb rest so that the small camera also fits large hands.
In terms of technical specifications, the E-M5 III is very similar to the current Olympus top model, the E-M1 II. It uses the same sensor with 20 megapixels, the same image processor and the same phase detection autofocus with 121 cross-type sensors. But all at a more favourable price.

Other features of the E-M5 III
- 4K video, slow motion recording at 120 frames per second in Full HD, microphone connection
- 10 frames per second with tracking AE/AF
- 180 degree rotatable LCD
- OLED viewfinder
- Fast mechanical shutter (1/8000 second)
- WLAN and Bluetooth
- USB charging
- Focus bracketing & stacking
The camera is available in black and silver in various kits.
Update: The camera is expected to be available from mid-November. Pre-orders are now possible. To mark its 100th anniversary, Olympus is giving you 100 francs off your order. Enter the voucher code "ODE100" when paying. This promotion runs up to and including 15 November 2019.
