Sennheiser introduces the Momentum 4 Wireless and continues the popular over-ear line. The typical Sennheiser headphone design is no longer there, but there are many improved features.

The many leaks suggested it: Sennheiser is continuing the Momentum series. Three years after its predecessor comes the Momentum 4 Wireless. The new model has an impressive battery life of 60 hours. By comparison, the Momentum 3 has 17 hours, Sony's new WH-1000XM5 30 hours, and most over-ear headphones have around 20 to 30 hours. In addition, there is a completely new design and a few more features compared to the predecessor.

New design, typical Sennheiser temples are gone

You can see it from a distance, Sennheiser has removed the size adjustment from the ear cups. Like many others, the German manufacturer now relies on retractable and extendable headband arms for size adjustment - which is elegant on the one hand, but also takes away from the headphones' typical retro charm.

As a reminder, this is what the predecessor model looks like:

The new Momentum headphones are mostly plastic, with a grey fabric headband and padding on the underside.

New, the headphones no longer fold up. However, you can turn the ear cups in flat. Nevertheless, the headphones will probably take up quite a bit of space in your backpack. Sennheiser joins Sony, Apple and B&O among the manufacturers with headphones that can no longer be folded. The headphones are packaged with a hard case made of the same fabric as the headphone band.

Customisable sound, improved noise cancelling and touch controls

As for the sound of the headphones, the manufacturer writes that it relies on the so-called "Sennheiser Signature Sound", which is produced with a 42-mm sound transducer. The sound can be adjusted in the Sennheiser Smart Control app with a new sound personalisation function and an integrated equaliser. To make sure you can hear your surroundings through the closed headphones, Sennheiser again relies on a Transparency Mode.

Want to hear your surroundings through the closed headphones?

If you don't want to hear your surroundings, the adjustable active noise cancelling comes into play. Sennheiser claims to have improved this. And the new Momentum model is no longer controlled with buttons as before, but with a touch control. When the headphones are removed, the music stops automatically thanks to wearer recognition.

Testing devices and gadgets is my thing. Some experiments lead to interesting insights, others to demolished phones. I’m hooked on series and can’t imagine life without Netflix. In summer, you’ll find me soaking up the sun by the lake or at a music festival.
