Stylish, slim, agile: this is how Dyson enters the wet cleaning game

Dyson is entering a new product category and has unveiled its first hard floor cleaner, the WashG1. This marks the company's definitive entry into the wet cleaning game, following last year's launch of its vacuum mopping attachment, the Dyson Submarine.

Pumping instead of vacuuming

To remove the dirt, Dyson uses a common method for hard floor cleaners and sprinkles the usual pinch of design on top. Two counter-rotating microfibre rollers are constantly sprayed with a fresh water jet and mop the floor while catapulting the dirt directly into a collection tray.

This is where the new, unique system advertised by Dyson comes into play. In the tray, the WashG1 separates the particles from the liquid and pumps them into a separate dirty water tank instead of feeding everything into the same container. Only the solid particles remain in the collection tray. The dirt containers are removed from the appliance at the end and cleaned in the sink under running water. According to the company, this minimises contact with the dirt.

According to Dyson, some cleaning agent can easily be added to the fresh water. One tank of water should be enough to clean up to 290 m² of floor space. Whether a battery life of 35 minutes is enough for this remains to be seen. The water supply is regulated with three cleaning levels in order to react to different types of dirt. This should also be able to remove stubborn dirt.

With a weight of 4.5 kg, the WashG1 is a mid-range wet cleaner. With a price of 699 francs, it is more in the upper league. Nevertheless, the WashG1 stands on its own and can simply be put down when cleaning. Whether sensitive parquet, linoleum or tiles, the appliance is said to be suitable for all types of hard floors. When the job is done, the hard floor cleaner switches on the short self-cleaning mode in the charging station. After a charging time of four hours at the latest, the battery is also fully charged and the WashG1 is ready for use.

Vacuum cleaner and mop in one - but only for hard floor coverings

If the WashG1 lives up to its promise, it could significantly reduce the effort required for vacuuming and mopping the floor, as it does both at the same time. However, it does not make the hoover completely superfluous, as it is not suitable for carpet cleaning. The wet cleaner will be available in our shop from the beginning of September. I will then put it through its paces on heart and soul parquet and tiled floors and report back to you.
