A start-up has presented a supposedly innovative oven at the CES in Las Vegas: The "Macrowave" combines a microwave and infrared oven in one appliance. However, it's not that new.
The company Revolution Cooking is known for its expensive toasters that bake bread to a crisp thanks to infrared radiation. The same technology is now being used in the Macrowave. This is a microwave that also works with infrared radiation. The microwave warms the food from the inside, while the infrared rays ensure a crispy exterior, for example for gratins or chicken.
You can call up various smart functions via the touchscreen. The appliance can be used as a normal microwave, an airfryer, a convection oven or a rotary grill.
The food should warm up faster and be cooked more gently, as the manufacturer promises in the video. An integrated meat thermometer should ensure precise results. It is not known when the Macrowave will be launched and how much it will cost.
Microwaves with grills are nothing new; we have almost 200 in our range. These are usually conventional heating elements and not infrared radiators. It takes a while for the grill to get up to temperature and it requires more energy. Infrared is ready immediately and does not consume unnecessary power. But LG also came up with the idea of combining microwave and infrared some time ago. However, the range of functions of the NeoCook microwave is not as extensive as that promised by the Macrowave.

Today, rattling those pots and pans is a fundamental part of my life. I’m a true foodie and devour everything from junk food to star-awarded cuisine. Literally. I eat way too fast.
