Your favourite song as an alarm tone, even if the mobile phone manufacturer doesn't allow it

The alarm clock is probably the most useful but also the most terrible invention of our time. This terror every morning. Horrible. Wouldn't it be nice if you could have your favourite song as your alarm clock soundtrack? It's just stupid when mobile phone manufacturers don't allow it. Sounds like the Stone Age, but it still happens. We know a remedy.

We all hate the terror of the alarm clock every morning, don't we? I mean, let's be honest: the alarm clock has a huge impact on your day. And that's where mobile phone manufacturers like HTC make a big mistake. They only offer their own beeps and no obvious way to add other sounds or songs.

Since I like to press and fiddle with devices, I have found a way to set my own MP3s as alarm sounds.

It's quite possible that this trick also works for mobiles from other manufacturers. I tested it on an HTC with Android Nougat .

What you need

Despite the deadly annoying alarm sounds they provide, HTC is apparently not too keen on letting you wake up to your own tunes. Of course, we users won't put up with that. Fortunately, there's a simple trick you can use to get round this restriction. All the apps in this guide are free, but have a paid version if you like the programmes

For this trick you need:

  • An MP3 of your song, streaming doesn't work here
  • A PC or Mac
  • Your mobile .- The app ES File Explorer
HTC 10 (32 GB, Carbon grey, 5.20", Single SIM, 12 Mpx, 4G)
Smartphones

HTC One M9 (32 GB, Gunmetal Grey, 5", Single SIM, 20 Mpx, 4G)
Smartphones

HTC One M9

HTC One A9 (16 GB, Grey, 5", Single SIM, 13 Mpx, 4G)
Smartphones

HTC One A9

16 GB, Grey, 5", Single SIM, 13 Mpx, 4G

How it works

  1. Download the MP3 to your mobile .2. Open ES File Explorer and find your MP3 file
  2. Go to the location in ES File Explorer
  3. Open the file in ES Media Player
  4. Click on the three dots in the top right corner6. Select Set Ringtone or the German equivalent next to the bell icon
  5. Select Set Alarm

Done!

A tip at the end: Never use the song "Aufstehn" by Seeed as your alarm clock sound, because then you are guaranteed not to get up.

So out of interest: What is your alarm clock sound? The standard "Briiing Briing" or your favourite song?
