Apple's most advanced Neural Engine for up to 11x faster machine learning. And up to 20 hours of battery life - the longest ever in a Mac. It's Apple's most popular Pro notebook taken to a whole new level. It's here. Apple's first chip designed specifically for the Mac. The Apple M1 System on a Chip (SoC) is packed with an incredible 16 billion transistors and combines CPU, GPU, Neural Engine, I/O and much more on one tiny chip. With incredible performance, specialised technologies and industry-leading power efficiency1, the M1 isn't just the next step for the Mac - it's a whole new level. The M1 chip makes MacBook Pro extremely fast and powerful. Its 8-core CPU handles complex workflows and heavy workloads with left and up to 2.8x faster processing power than the previous generation2 - all with incredible energy efficiency.
The 8-core GPU in the M1 is the most advanced graphics processor Apple has ever created. Period. And it delivers the world's fastest integrated graphics in a computer7 with an incredible 5x increase in graphics power. 16-core Neural Engine. Smart meets fast. Machine learning (ML) brings tremendous speed and automation to tasks like video analytics, voice recognition, image processing, and more. And the M1 chip with 16-core Neural Engine and the full suite of technologies brings a whole new level of ML performance to MacBook Pro.
macOS Big Sur is designed to make the most of the M1 chip's potential, giving your Mac significantly higher performance and so much more. Powerful updates for apps. A stunning new design. Industry-leading features for data protection and world-class security. It's Apple's most powerful software ever - and it runs on Apple's most advanced hardware. The M1 chip and macOS Big Sur work together to make the whole system more responsive. MacBook Pro wakes up instantly from sleep mode. Everyday tasks like browsing photos and browsing with Safari are faster. And all your most demanding apps get the power they need. Use powerful apps designed for the M1. All your existing apps continue to work with Rosetta 2. And for the first time, you can open your iPhone and iPad apps directly in macOS Big Sur. So you have access to the largest collection of apps ever made for the Mac.
One chip to control it all. The M1 chip brings up to 16GB of super-fast shared memory. This central pool of high-bandwidth, low-latency memory lets apps efficiently share data between the CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine. So everything you do is fast and fluid. On the brilliant Retina display, images are incredibly detailed and realistic. Text is crisp and clear. Bright LED backlighting delivers deep blacks and bright whites. A wide P3 color gamut enables even richer greens and reds than sRGB. And every MacBook Pro comes with True Tone technology. That means white balance automatically adjusts to the color temperature of the light around you for more natural viewing.

Really fast, a top screen and an extremely long battery life: the MacBook Pro 13 inch is a great notebook for working on the go (and gaming in between). So it's not a big deal that Apple has kept everything the same. Another point of criticism: upgrading after purchase is not possible - and the surcharges for more memory are again hefty.
- Powerful display
- Rosetta 2 emulation already supports many software titles
- Extremely long battery life
- Excellent performance values with universal binary software
- An external GPU can no longer be connected
- Available with a maximum of 16 GByte RAM

- blazingly fast and whisper-quiet
- still no good webcam
The almost perfect laptop for the vast majority of uses, topped perhaps only by the MacBook Air M1.

A lot of power promised - and delivered: Although only a part of the software has been adapted to the new M1 processor, it provides a powerful speed boost: the MacBook Air is now a real sprinter, the small 13-inch Pro model is easily on a par with the 16-inch top model. The Mac mini's lower score is not due to its speed, but to its meagre equipment.
