100% of the case is formed by a CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining process. The precision machined aluminum case results in an elegant design with high build quality that is stronger and stiffer than magnesium or plastic. The black carbon fiber palm rest, borrowed from the aerospace industry, or Arctic White fiberglass hand rest provide maximum strength and minimal weight. The design team worked tirelessly until all the details were just right - a carefully crafted backlight and UV and stain resistant coating to prevent yellowing and staining.

Elements like the display, buttons and touchpad are larger for a simpler, streamlined user experience. The XPS features a 6.8% larger 16:10 display, a 17% larger touchpad, and an edge-to-edge backlit keyboard with larger keys.
