Fifth place goes to the P40 Pro from Huawei. The smartphone is the oldest in our test, but can still keep up with the competition to some extent. The phone has the advantage that it had one of the best camera setups in the industry in spring 2020. Even though it is almost two years old, the camera is still usable.
The P30 Pro was a small revolution in the smartphone segment with its periscope telephoto lens and 5x optical zoom. Samsung followed suit and offers a 3x and a 10x zoom in the S21 Ultra 5G in this test (see right). And it is not only in this area that Huawei is now lagging behind...
The question of the best camera smartphone is no longer settled in good lighting conditions. The results, even from smartphones in the upper mid-range, are simply too good. The wheat is separated from the chaff when the challenges for the camera increase, such as in low light or when zooming is required...

... Like many competing models, the Huawei P40Pro attacks the compact camera market with its different cameras and focal lengths. After all, the flexible focal length of a compact camera with zoom function is the main argument against taking photos with a smartphone.
With the camera quality benchmark, we measure smartphones according to the same criteria as professional system cameras. Each lens is evaluated in different lighting conditions and at the end condensed to an overall score, the qb score. Huawei's P40 Pro clearly leads the qb score with 86 points; the photo quality is outstanding across all focal lengths...
