Product details
The Intel Optane 900P is a solid-state drive based on Intel's proprietary 3D Xpoint memory. It is a slightly modified version of the Datacenter SSD DC P4800X and offers faster load times for design, simulations, and customized games such as Star Citizen. The strength of the Optane 900P lies in its significantly reduced access latencies. It provides less than 10 microseconds for both reading and writing, compared to the often more than 50 microseconds of flash-based PCIe SSDs. Additionally, the Optane technology starts performing well even with a low command queue. When data is read and written in parallel, the performance hardly drops. Even as the drive fills up, the performance remains consistently high. Optane utilizes the 3D XPoint memory technology developed by Intel and Micron. This technology is based on changes in electrical resistance and does not require field-effect transistors like flash cells, allowing for a higher integration density. 3D XPoint ranks in performance between fast DRAM and slower NAND flash. Unlike DRAM, however, 3D XPoint is non-volatile and retains data even without a constant power supply.
