Unfortunately, I can not recommend. Better buy something cheaper....

De türscht Chübel wonich je kauft han....

    1. it has for (then) 650.- no aptx driver, i.e. if you connect the device via Bluetooth plays the music only with delay - because for whatever reason in a 650.- device a aptx driver
is too much to ask. This is of course nowhere prominently "shown"

    2. there are always connection problems out of the blue. The device doesn't connect at all, keeps crashing (Airply, Bluetooth, Chromcast) and even when connected with cable(!!) it just stops playing, re-plugging the cable doesn't help, rebooting the device doesn't help either.... What is the reason? No clue! I have rebooted the device EVERY time.

    3. looked at all my problems with B&O support and was told to send the unit in - done. I get the unit back after 2 weeks with the info "The unit is working fine" - tested it right away - immediately problems again, lol. I did 1 week of testing with customer service before sending it in and they just promptly send it back again

    4. sometimes you listen to music (via cable) and then the music just stops - it looks like the device went into sleep mode. But when you "wake it up" nothing happens, reboot nothing, plug it in again nothing.

I really, honestly, have never had such enormous problems with such a "well known" vendor in such a price range. This is incredible - from me in any case never again B&O. Since I prefer simply pay 100-200 francs and get my speaker with an aptx driver and the speaker also works as it should.

    5. EVERY TIME I come from work and want to listen to music via LINE-IN I must first access the device via IP address and enable the LINE IN delay and then disable - for whatever sh** reason the device otherwise does not notice when it comes out of standby that the LINE IN delay is already disabled, just incredible this implementation.

Finally I have to say that the sound is very good! Even the device itself is very small, but can fill a room very well with sound & bass what has amazed me very much.

A pair in the same room cannot be configured as stereo speakers

Had bought a second M5 with the aim of configuring them as right/left speakers in one room.
Unfortunately learned from support that this is possible... ("There is a work-around via google-home").

    Pro

    • Very good sound
    • Beautiful design

    Contra

    • Overpriced
    • Terrible B&O app: counter-intuitive, convoluted, cumbersome
    • Not mobile due to fixed power supply

    Was dropped by B&O

Device came on the market in 2017, I bought it in December 2020 for 518.-.
Initial configuration a little further away from the router via WiFi is terrible, had to reset 3x until it worked directly at the router. After that
you don't really need the B&O app, except for firmware updates or equalizer.
Speaking of which, Chromecast builtin is at version 1.28.xxx and no longer being updated, says support. Google Chromecast Audio has not been sold since 2019, is at 1.42.xxx, and the M5's only 1 year younger brother, the M3, is at 1.44.xxx.
Together with Google Home, this means 1) M5 doesn't turn down volume when talking to a Nest mini in the same room, and 2) dynamically add speaker to Multiroom via checkbox doesn't work, the M5 is missing from the list of selectable speakers. Static multiroom groups go, after all.
Dropped by B&O, exaggerated bass, for over 500.-? -> return.

    Pro

    • Design
    • Sound quality mid/treble
    • WiFi + LAN
    • mini-Toslink / analog jack combined
    • (in theory) Chromecast + AirPlay 2

    Contra

    • Really bad initial setup with B&O App
    • No more SW/FW support, Chromecast version totally outdated.
    • Bass too strong, also not enough down adjustable
