    So imprecise, it's basically unusable

After reading the host of positive reviews, I was convinced that this is the watch that I needed. I mainly wanted a watch that could count my laps in the pool and measure the distance I swam in open water.
    The first time
I take it to the pool, I did 12 50+50m laps. The watch counted 16. Why? Probably because at some point there was somebody in my way and I had to switch to breast stroke until the lane was free to pass. The watch just noticed a changed in stroke pattern, and assumed I reached the end of the pool. Not very smart.
Then I took the watch out for a swim in the lake. I swam roughly 950m (between some previously measured buoys), and the watch indicated that I swam 1600m, which is not even close to reality. I went to the Garmin help page to see if I did something wrong, and there they suggest that if the measurement is inaccurate, one should wear that watch inside the swim cap, to make sure it's always above water. This is not a joke, here's the link:
    https://support.garmin.com/en-US.
At this point I decided this watch is not for me and returned it.

Conclusion: if you're swimming laps and never change your stroke in the middle of the pool, it can probably count your laps. If you're willing to wear the watch in your swim cap, it can even measure your distance using GPS. Otherwise, just buy a 20CHF water resistant watch with a timer and you get the same benefits.

    Very good swimwatch

A really good swimwatch. I prefer fitbit as overall fitness tracker (steps, sleep, HR, etc...) but for swimming (and only for swimming) I use this watch. Not really useful for non-swimmers.

    Pro

    • Precise lap counting
    • Good batery life

    Contra

    • Garmin software not cool beyond sports tracking
    • No integration with myswimpro
