Try something else if range is something you need.
The product is fully functional. However it's range is far from from 50m. I live in a very small apartment, and when i leave my room to get to the kitchen, my very recent headphones stop working. In comparison, all my other devices with bluetooth included have no problem to stay connected and fully working when i get to my kitchen.

older macbook pro - even wake from sleep works again
On my macbook pro 2012 Mojave, bluetooth gave up the ghost in the middle of typing. This adapter worked out of the box. I can even wake up the mac with the keyboard.
System preferences: pairing must be done via the keyboard or trackpad preferences, not the bluetooth preferences. the bluetooth preferences see only various headphones or TVs of the neighbors.
Magic keyboard and trackpad version 1 with the round battery compartment.
On the Startech website* macOS compatibility of this USBBT1EDR4 to Catalina is explicitly stated.

Comes without a driver, was not recognized by Windows 10, or defective driver. displayed. At Star Tech no corresponding driver found.

I purchased this primarily for testing and this works out of box with Proxmox VE and Homeassistant.

Because some industry computers ( Panel ) do not have Blootooth connection.Does what it should
For my needs well (Xbox controller). Rechweite I have not tested because not necessary for me.
