The Verbatim Slimline (a Pioneer drive) is since 1 week finally LibreDrive/MakeMKV compatible and the region/copy protection of Blurays can be bypassed, and also without having to change the firmware as with LG/ASUS Friendly/Official UHD drives. The drive is also quiet and Linux compatible.

Works as it should. I was unsure from the 2nd image of Digitec, on which an additional power connector is to be seen. However, this is not present in the delivered product and therefore meets my expectations. The power supply is ensured via the supplied USB-C Type C (running value) to Type A (PC). In addition, a Type C to Type A adapter is included. Desirable would have been from my point of view a Type C cable and an adapter to Type A.
On my iMac and MacBook Pro, however, the drive works right away and thus meets the expectations. Wonderful.

It's pretty much the best on the market and has almost the best price, but it's still a bit expensive, you can't avoid it.

After my old Blu-ray drive produced many read errors and no longer recognised some discs at all, it was time for a replacement. The Verbatim recorder (internally a Pioneer BD-RW BDR-UD04 drive) filled the gap perfectly, all tested silver discs were recognised and read without any errors. I haven't looked at the write quality yet, as I rarely need it.
The only negative thing I noticed was the volume when a BD is read at six times the speed; the drive is clearly audible and louder than its predecessor, which, however, only read at just over twice the speed. Physics takes its toll here.

I use the drive with Windows 11 and USB-C connection - runs without problems.
But with the enclosed CD with outdated Nero software, no Blu-ray discs can be played.
So you need additional software for films in Blu-ray format.
VLC and the Leawo Blu-ray Player are available free of charge for Windows and Mac. VLC supports Blu-ray only with the installation of additional files, but unfortunately it did not work for me. The Leawo player worked, but when playing my Blu-ray disc with the recording of a classical concert, the picture and sound were not in sync and the picture quality was limited. In the end, I bought the Blu-ray player from VideoByte, with which everything now runs perfectly.
In short: the drive is good, but for purchased Blu-ray films you have to find the appropriate - and in some cases ultimately expensive - software. With a little patience it works.
Pro
Important: Software for playing Blueray films must be purchased, such as "PowerDVD" from Cyberlink.
