Product details
The new Alpha 9 II builds on the impressive performance of Sony's Alpha 9 and, like the Alpha 9, is specifically designed for professional sports photographers and photojournalists. It features the same groundbreaking speed - including uninterrupted continuous shooting[i] at up to 20 frames per second[ii] and 60 AF/AE tracking calculations per second[iii] - and offers additional features that result directly from feedback from professional photographers. These include significant improvements in connectivity and file transfer, continuous shooting at up to 10 frames per second with mechanical shutter, improved autofocus with newly optimized algorithms, a redesigned housing for even better hold and operability, and much more.
The Alpha 9 II has an integrated 1000BASE-T Ethernet terminal for fast and stable data transmission in the Gigabit range. In addition, the camera supports file transfer using SSL or TLS encryption (FTPS) to ensure greater data security. Even with PC-controlled continuous shooting (tethering), performance has been improved by reducing the shutter release delay and time delay in the live view of the screen when using the Remote Camera Tool desktop application.
To make workflows more efficient, especially in news agencies, the Alpha 9 II is equipped with a new voice memo function that allows spoken information to be attached to images in the form of voice notes that can be played back when the images are viewed. The voice data can also be added to photos that are sent to editors to provide them with important information necessary for effective editing.
Like the Alpha 9, the new Alpha 9 II features the multi-layered 35mm Exmor RS full-frame CMOS image sensor with 24.2 megapixels and built-in memory, giving it the same unparalleled speed and outstanding image quality. The new camera is capable of continuous and completely silent continuous shooting at 20 frames per second for up to 361 JPEG images[xi] or 239 compressed RAW images without interrupting the viewfinder. This allows the photographer to follow the subject and the scenes during shooting without interference in the electronic viewfinder. In situations where the mechanical shutter is preferred or required, the new Alpha 9 II can capture up to 10 frames per second - about twice as many as the Alpha 9.
