Like all focal lengths of the unique ZEIss Otus® family, the Otus 1.4/85 is a superlative lens. One in which ZEIss' extensive knowledge and experience have been incorporated.

The Otus 1.4/85 does not only show off facial features and surface structures to their best advantage. In the same way, the main motif can be detached from its surroundings exceptionally well. The Otus 1.4/85 is much more than a portrait lens. Use its high luminosity for available light photography, its moderate angle of view for landscape photography or the close-up limit for repros.

The optical correction of the Otus 1.4/85 prevents almost all conceivable image errors - and will make you just as enthusiastic after the thousandth shot as after the very first one.

The Planar lens design is the most successful camera lens concept - also the most copied of all time. It gives the optical computer numerous possibilities to correct all aberrations to an extraordinarily large extent. And its imaging performance is very consistent over a wide range of imaging scales, the decisive prerequisite for universal macro lenses like the ZEIss Makro-Planar lens.

As an apochromat, the chromatic aberrations (longitudinal chromatic aberration) are corrected by lenses made of special glass with anomalous partial dispersion. The color defects are therefore well below defined limits. Light-dark transitions in the image and especially highlights are reproduced largely free of colored artifacts.

Aberrations are particularly noticeable in nighttime shots with large differences in brightness. Thanks to the excellently corrected transverse chromatic aberration, the luminous facade is reproduced absolutely perfectly.

Light sources that are in front or behind the focus distance are a particular challenge for any lens. With the ZEIss Otus, the colour longitudinal error is so small that practically no more colour fringes occur.

Aspherical design
The aspherical lens design ensures consistent imaging performance over the entire focus range as well as sharpness at the image periphery. The more complex surface profile of the asphere can reduce or even prevent spherical aberration and reduce further optical aberrations compared to a simple lens.
