TP-Link M7200
Does the 4G router work with a 5G prepaid SIM card? Abroad, e.g. in Spain, most telecoms providers only offer 5G SIM cards for sale. Will a 5G SIM card work in the TP-Link M7200? The speed is not decisive, 4G is perfectly sufficient.
Yes, the SIM cards are backwards compatible. So if you have a 5G SIM, it can also use 4G. So a normal 4G (LTE) router would also do it, i.e. the 7200M from TP-Link.
I have been using this router for years in Switzerland, Spain, Greece and South Africa, always with local prePaid (5G) travel SIM cards.
In Spain, for example, with Orange Go Fly, including right now (14 days, 50 GB=15 €, 100GB=20€). Ideal if you're travelling with the whole family.
Works perfectly, depending on network availability with 4G or 3G. It doesn't matter that this route doesn't support 5G as long as you have 4G or at least 3G reception ;-)
In Switzerland, I use this router to set up a wireless network with a printer and several PCs with mutual data exchange on an ad hoc basis. If you don't need internet access, it also works without a SIM.
The router can be controlled via an app and can also send and receive SMS and USSD codes.
I am very happy with it.
The only thing is that it sometimes gets quite warm depending on how it is used and the battery stops charging above a certain temperature for safety reasons.
So after all these years, I will buy a second battery when I get the chance.
