I bought the ASUS ZenDrive U9M a few days ago in the hope of being able to use it as a small portable BluRay player. But after trying it in all possible and impossible ways, I have to realise that it simply won't/can't read BluRay (films), let alone play them.
Yet the specs list BD-R, BD-R DL, BD-RE, BD-ROM as supported media formats. Do commercial BluRay film discs not fall under any of these formats?

I have now taken a very close look at the device. The correct type designation of this specific drive is
" ASUS ZenDrive SDRW-08U9M-U"
If you then search for it at ASUS, you realise that it is actually only an external DVD writer, without any BD capabilities!

Honestly, so much time wasted for nothing....  Merci Digitec/Galaxus

No, it is explicitly only a DVD reader and burner. No, film BDs are not meant: but it can play data Blu-rays. This has to do with licences.
