The Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus has the form factor M.2 (2280).
In order to use the full performance of the SSD, the M.2 slot should have PCIe 3.0 with 4 lanes. 
If in doubt, please enquire directly with the device manufacturer.

Caution is advised ... the manual for the motherboard explains how these slots can be used. I don't know the exact specifications for ROG Strix, but my Rampage VI has a separate chapter on this topic in the manual.
