What does dongle mean for this software?

DR17 can be downloaded here https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve/ But it is still in the beta stage. Dongle in this case means that you get a USB stick with the licence on it. This means you can use Davinci Studio on any PC/Mac. Regarding your last question, I can't give you a 100% correct answer. From what I have read so far, it seems that you can update for free.
