Product details

René Goscinny, born on August 14, 1926, in Paris to Polish-Ukrainian parents, grew up in Buenos Aires. In 1945, he emigrated to New York with the plan to draw for Walt Disney. This dream eluded him, and he soon realized that his great talent lay more in writing stories than in drawing. Goscinny returned to Europe and made a name for himself by writing numerous Lucky Luke and Little Nicholas episodes. However, his greatest success came from 1959 onwards with the adventures of the indomitable Gaul Asterix, which he created in collaboration with illustrator Albert Uderzo. Asterix became a million-dollar success, and the fruitful partnership between friends Goscinny and Uderzo lasted until Goscinny's sudden death in 1977. Goscinny's friend and partner, Albert Uderzo, was born on April 25, 1927, in Fismes, France. From a young age, the son of Italian immigrants—also inspired by Walt Disney—showed himself to be a talented illustrator. After teaching himself comic drawing, he published his first illustrations in 1948. Just three years later, he met René Goscinny, with whom he formed one of the most celebrated partnerships in comic history. Since Goscinny's death, Uderzo has produced Asterix on his own. In 2012, he introduced his successors and announced that Asterix has a glorious future ahead, even without him.

In the year 45 after the first publication in Germany, Asterix undergoes its first major revision. After careful attention to detail, all 34 albums are now uniformly colored and lettered in the font of Albert Uderzo. The cover designs have been gently modified, with some covers even redrawn by Asterix illustrator Albert Uderzo himself. This ensures that the great success of Asterix is ready for a new century and can look forward to a glorious future.
