The book "Non-adherence to Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) after sexual assault" by Nelisiwe Khuzwayo provides a comprehensive analysis of the challenges faced by women in the Eastern Cape Province regarding adherence to Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) after a sexual assault. It highlights the social and environmental factors identified as both facilitating and hindering elements for adherence to PEP. The study is based on interviews with 16 women who were offered PEP after a sexual assault and offers valuable insights into the reasons why only a few women successfully completed the 28-day treatment. By applying Grounded Theory to data analysis, a deep understanding of the complex dynamics influencing adherence to this vital prophylactic measure is achieved.
