The book "The Role of NGOs in Human Capital Development" by Abera Argo offers a comprehensive analysis of the role of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the development of human capital in developing countries, particularly in Ethiopia. It examines how programs aimed at improving basic education, such as the World Learning/BESO II project in the Sidama Zone, can contribute to promoting education and mobilizing the local community. The study emphasizes that education, training, and healthcare are crucial tools for human capital development. By involving the community in school development, a sense of ownership was created, leading to increased enrollment of students, especially girls. Despite the positive outcomes in educational quality, the challenges of sustainability that can arise in similar projects are also highlighted. This work is aimed at educational planners, policymakers, development researchers, and NGOs engaged in comparable projects.
