can this version also be used to grind peeled almonds and the like? the instructions say that a different attachment is needed for this. where can i find a suitable alternative attachment if i can't do it without one?

Also works without the attachment. I regularly make nut butter with the standard knife without any problems.
The other attachment might be better for small quantities (200-300g works quite well, I've never tried less).

You can order the attachment directly from Bosch as a spare part, but there are certainly cheaper suppliers.
