    Surprisingly good

My old Bosch PBD40 was not precise enough for metal working, so I have been looking for something better. This one does the job. I may have received a better-than-average unit, as I measured the Holzmann's spindle runout (Rundlauf) at a mere 0,015mm, and all paintwork looks good. The MT2 (MK2) insert matches my other tools (note: the kick-out wedge is flimsy), the cast-iron tool body is solid, and the vario drive action is smooth. The safety guard was rotated 45degrees and could not be installed without a bit of tinkering, but the relais works, which is the most important. Do also note, that all parts need a good greasing after unpackaging. Looking forward to many great projects. Happy buyer here:-)

    Pro

    • Precise spindle
    • MT2 taper
    • Sturdy & rigid
    • Vario drive

    Contra

    • Perhaps a bit underpowered for some, but with sufficient oompf for my tasks.
    • Impossible to mount the safety guard without a bit of tinkering.

    Acceptable machine for hobby use

After a little improvement, the machine now works to my satisfaction (extend the speed lever and table clamp and new expulsion wedge).

    Pro

    • Variable speed, light and laser

    Contra

    • Unsteady running, Variomatic and table clamp operating levers too short. Too narrow expulsion wedge.

Cheap enough not to upset my better half

I decided for this drill press when it became clear that buying a 400kg industrial model would lead to a major conjugal crisis.
In short: you get what you pay for. The drill press packs an impressive number of features at
a low price, and the RPM range allows for metal and wood work. However, the finish is flimsy, the machine looks old out of the box (paint chipped, rusty parts, …)
I hope that the noise level decreases once it’s properly broken in, the vibration level and the runout are too high for precision work.

    Pro

    • Cheap
    • RPM range wider than advertised (down to 290rpm)
    • Honestly, it does fulfill most of my needs
    • CVT works well

    Contra

    • Loud, lots of vibrations
    • The 500W motor is easily stalled when drilling 8mm in steel, take it slow!
    • Runout worse than expected (+/-0.07mm measured on the drill bit shank)
    • Some washers came out of the box rusty
    • Low quality finish
