The body produces the majority of the sun vitamin in the skin itself with sufficient sun exposure. However, in autumn and winter, if you spend too little time in the sun (office work) and have dark skin, this is often not enough. In addition, the body's own production of the sun vitamin decreases with age. If the body does not produce enough vitamin D, the German Nutrition Society recommends a daily intake of 20 μg (800 I.U.) of vitamin D for adults.
