Pokémon is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and is coming up with numerous goodies and new features. Minh Dat and David have been fans from the very beginning. I met them and was whisked away into the fascinating world of Pikachu and co.

The two Galaxus employees Minh Dat (26) and David (20) have loved Pokémon for as long as they can remember and are real experts in the field. "I got my first Pokémon-themed Gameboy for my 5th birthday with the 1st generation game Pokémon Yellow," says David. The 6th generation of the game is now available and "Pokémon Sun and Moon", generation 7, is due to be released this year.

The number of different Pokémon is also steadily increasing, now totalling 721. Of course, the two fans also have their favourites from all these characters. Minh Dat explains: "My favourite Pokémon is Lucario. It plays the main role in the 8th film. When I saw it in this film, it completely flashed me and touched me. This Pokémon needs a lot of affection to evolve." In general, the Pokémon series seems to be something special. Minh Dat says: "The series has always conveyed the same emotional, fundamental values such as friendship. Others find the series boring, monotonous. I think it teaches children the right values. It grabbed me as a child: I dreamed of experiencing the same thing as the Pokémon trainers from the series." David then talks enthusiastically about his favourite: "My favourite Pokémon is "Milotic", a water Pokémon. It has a very nice story: "Milotic" evolves from the ugliest Pokémon, Barschwa, to the most beautiful of all. As a trainer, you have to take great care of this Pokémon and look after it well so that it evolves into the most beautiful of all Pokémon."

Although Pokémon is more than just a childhood memory for the two loyal fans, they are always particularly beautiful. Minh Dat explains: "I used to play a game all night long to catch a Pokémon. Today, I can read everything on the internet. You used to have to exchange information and help each other." And David explains: "We used to connect two Gameboys with a cable to swap Pokémon from one game to the other."

As already mentioned, Pokémon has announced a lot for the anniversary year. The Nintendo DS Special Editions Red, Blue and Yellow have already been released and sold out extremely quickly. David and Minh Dat proudly present one of these Nintendo DSs to me. Now the two fans are eagerly awaiting the new game and the new film, which are also due to be released for the anniversary this year. A new Pokémon has been available to download from the game every month since February. These are so-called "mysterious Pokémon", which can only be obtained if you have the corresponding series code. David explains that such codes have been available in the past, but often only at special events abroad. As he was unable to travel to these events as a child, he sees the current download option as a "gift" from Pokémon to loyal fans so that they can complete their collection today. These special Pokémon are also released monthly as plush figures.

Also announced for this year is the "Pokémon Go" app, in which you can meet Pokémon characters in the real world. But take a look for yourself:

Finally, I would like to know from David and Minh Dat what else they would like to see from Pokémon. They would both think it would be extremely cool if you could immerse yourself in the Pokémon games with VR glasses and play them that way. We are all confident that something like this will not just be realised for the 30th anniversary.
