7 summer trends: from AR glasses in the swimming pool, drones that fly somersaults and wingfoiling
What trends will shape summer 2024? What will we see in parks, swimming pools and on holiday? Galaxus regularly tracks the latest developments and products. Today, we’re showing off seven trends for this summer.
1. If it has to be sports, do it right: with augmented reality in the swimming pool
Augmented reality, i.e. mixing true and virtual reality, is now also reaching the world of swimming. A new pair of goggles shows you how far and fast you’re swimming. Having to activate the smartwatch on your arm, shake off water and press buttons every few minutes is a thing of the past. Galaxus expert Siri Schubert wrote about them.
2. Exploring landscapes with drones that can even do somersaults
Drones are already very common and one of the most popular product types at Galaxus. Now, there’s a new first-person view (FPV) drone that can do flips and rolls, and its video recordings are really fun. Galaxus expert Samuel Buchmann shows them off in his article.
3. Wing foiling
Wing surfing, or wingfoiling, is a variation of a water sport that has evolved from kitesurfing and windsurfing. You literally float over the water. Siri explains how she learned it.
4. Leave the smartphone at home, or better, only use Boring Phones
An important trend: slowing down and really enjoying the summer (offline). Leaving your smartphone at home helps, but many people find it difficult, as they want to be reachable in emergencies. This is where the Boring Phone can help. Or alternatively – simply switch off mobile data and all apps. Smartphone expert Jan Johannsen took a look at the special novelty.
5. Get your bike ready – and use it!
Park your car and mount that bike – more and more people are picking up the habit. However, you can’t really enjoy it that much in the rain and especially the cold. Luckily, it’s late Spring, and nobody’s freezing on the bike. Galaxus expert Patrick Bardelli shows how to get your bike chain in shape for spring. And fellow editor Siri argues in favour of mountain biking.
6. Only the tough can brave a garden – and then leave the work to robots
Now that the lawn is growing again, we also need to get active in garden maintenance. New robotic mower models help with this. According to a recent test by consumer magazine Stiftung Warentest, however, you’ll have to place stakes in your lawn to achieve good results. However, the new Dreame Roboticmower A1 promises precise and problem-free lawn care thanks to its sensors, even without a perimeter wire or special base station to amplify the GPS signal. Galaxus expert Lorenz Keller took a closer look at it.
7. Travelling yes, but not without my data storage
Western Digital has launched the Ultrastar Transporter, a case with 368 terabytes of NVMe storage. The product is intended for the physical transport of data when Internet connections are too slow. 368 terabytes, in other words: 7 million photos in RAW format, 2 billion document pages or 15,000 Windows 11 installations, as Galaxus expert Kevin Hofer writes. Bon Voyage!
