"Apex Legends Mobile" and "Battlefield Mobile" to be discontinued

After a little less than a year, EA and Respawn Entertainment are burying the mobile spin-off of "Apex Legends". The development of "Battlefield Mobile" is also being discontinued.
"Apex Legends Mobile" will be discontinued as of 1 May 2023. This was announced by video game giant EA in a blog post. The game will be removed from the Google Play Store and App Store later today and the option for in-game purchases will be deactivated. In-game currency that has already been purchased can be spent until the servers are shut down. There will be no refunds for purchases already made.

EA justifies this radical step with a reorientation of its mobile gaming strategy, which also affects "Battlefield Mobile". The game was in development at Industrial Toys and was supposed to be released last year. Now it will never see the light of day.
In contrast to other mobile games such as "Fortnite", "Apex Legends Mobile" did not support cross-play. In other words, mobile players could not compete against PC and console players. This prevented significant growth in the mobile version of the battle royale shooter. Battlefield Mobile was also developed specifically for mobile devices and was not compatible with other Battlefield versions.
In future, EA wants to focus on "cross-platform ecosystems" in the development of mobile games that offer a similar user experience on all end devices. It is therefore not impossible that both "Apex Legends" and "Battlefield" will return at some point as cross-play compatible mobile versions.
Aside from the strategic reason for discontinuing the games, EA CEO Andrew Wilson also expressed his unhappiness with the quality of "Apex Legends Mobile" in an investor call. According to Wilson, Respawn Entertainment has not managed to translate the fast and team-based battle royale gameplay of "Apex Legends" to mobile devices with touch controls. In addition, the quantity and quality of the updates for the mobile game were not at the same high level as the PC and console versions. Respawn has apologised on Twitter to its fans for this.
"Apex Legends" in the Digitec Playground Cup
The cancellation of "Apex Legends Mobile" has no impact on "Apex Legends". Development of the PC and console versions will continue as planned.
Unfortunately! Because the ninth Digitec Playground Cup with "Apex Legends" will take place in February. The battle royale game came out on top in the Community Voting with 19 per cent ahead of "Rainbow Six Siege" (15 per cent) and "Age of Empires 2" (9 per cent)
Do you think you have what it takes to be the Apex Champion? Registration for the cup is now open. You can find all further information in this article:
