Ayn Loki: New handheld with Windows presented
Ayn announces a new handheld with Windows that will be released in five variants. The Loki series offers a choice of Intel or AMD processor and will be available starting at $299.
Alternatives to Valve's Steam Deck are springing up like mushrooms. The Chinese manufacturer Shenzhen Ayn Technologies already offers the Android handheld Odin. Now a new mobile gaming device is added, which will be available in five versions and relies on Windows for the OS. According to the specifications known so far, the new Ayn Loki can hold a candle to Valve's competition in the best configuration.
According to the Youtube trailer, Ayn's Loki is supposed to be the most affordable Windows handheld so far. Visually, it is based on the Odin and has the usual controls - two joysticks, a directional pad, start, select, action and shoulder buttons. There is also a USB-C port and a 3.5 mm jack, as well as a display that will probably be around six inches like the Odin's and offer 1080p resolution.
Ayn does not yet mention exact technical details, prices or a release date. Nevertheless, price lists are already circulating on the web. Accordingly, the cheapest model called Loki Mini with an Intel Alder Lake processor, Iris Xe graphics and 64 gigabytes of memory will cost 299 US dollars. Three other variants are listed with the name Loki and are supposed to use AMD's Zen 3+ microarchitecture for the CPU and RDNA 2 for the GPU: A Ryzen 5 6600U APU with six cores, twelve threads and a boost up to 4.5 GHz as well as Radeon 660M graphics. The AMD handhelds are to be released with 64, 256 and 512 gigabytes of memory and cost $499, $599 and $699, respectively.
The fifth variant will be called Loki Max and will cost 799 US dollars. Like the Steam Deck, a Ryzen 7 6800U APU with eight cores, 16 threads and a boost up to 4.75 GHz is to be used. A Radeon 680M is supposed to do the job in terms of graphics, and there is 512 gigabytes of memory.
