"Counter-Strike 2" could be released as early as next month
One of the most successful and oldest e-sports games ever is set to receive a massive update in April. According to insiders, the game in question is "Counter-Strike 2".
Rumours about a new "Counter-Strike" are constantly circulating. More than ten years after the launch of "CS:GO", the successor is now set to become a reality. Scene expert and e-sports journalist Richard Lewis writes that Valve wants to release the beta of the new version of the multiplayer shooter as early as next April.
One of the biggest changes is the switch from the Source 1 to the Source 2 engine. Games such as "Dota2" or "Half-Life Alyx" already use the new version of Valve's own graphics engine. The upgrade should provide graphical and technical improvements. The latter include the change in tick rate from 64 to 128, which describes the amount of information that a server transmits per second. With 128, there should be less false drop damage, among other things. The direct competitor "Valorant" already relies on the higher tick rate.

"Counter-Strike 2", as the project is known internally at Valve, is also set to overhaul the matchmaking system. Many who play competitively currently use third-party services such as FACEIT to get more balanced matches. According to Lewis, "CS:GO" Pro players are already testing the new version intensively.
The "Counter-Strike" successor or update, depending on what you want to call it, follows a rather lean period for updates. The reason for this is now clear. The development studio is working on the new part. Another indication of the new "CS" can also be found in the latest Nvidia driver update. There, smart minds have discovered two new executable files, "csgos2.exe" and "cs2.exe".
A central question that arises is what will become of the current "Counter-Strike: GO"? It is still unclear whether the new instalment will replace the previous one in the e-sports sector or whether both will be played in parallel. This was the case with "Dota 2", for example, until it was merged into one version with "Dota 2 Reborn". <p
