The Dji Spark is a pocket-sized drone that's extremely easy to control, and impresses with the quality of its videos.

Availability, colours and Fly More packs

At the moment, the drone is available in the colour "Alpine White" (white). Dji has given no information about other colours or Fly More packs.

Dji's four Spark colours

Aside from "Alpine White", the drone is made in "Lava Red" (red), "Sky Blue" (blue), "Meadow Green" (green) and "Sunrise Yellow" (yellow). We don't yet know when we'll be able to market these coloured variants. Overview of the different colours Delivery includes:

  • The drone with propellers and battery
  • A pair of spare propellers
  • A USB charger
  • A case
  • A quick start guide

You'll also need a MicroSD card such as this one SanDisk Extreme microSDHC U3 with adapter.

The Spark is manufactured in five colours.

The Fly More packs

Each colour comes with a Fly More pack, which is more comprehensive than the single Dji Spark pack:

  • An extra battery
  • A remote control
  • An extra pair of propellers
  • A propeller guard
  • A mains charger (the regular pack only includes a USB charger)
  • A charging station
  • A shoulder bag

As mentioned below, we don't yet know when we'll be able to deliver the first Fly More packs. Preview of Fly More packs

Powerful mini drones with impressive video quality

Dji says it himself: his mini drone is packed with excellent technology. It's perfectly suited to beginners thanks to its size and robustness (it's big enough not to be swept away by the slightest gust), and its controls are of course intelligent and intuitive. One slight drawback: only the propellers can be folded. But it's already so compact that we can't really complain...

  • Flight time up to 16 minutes
  • Aerodynamic design, sober, light, very low air resistance
  • Attains 50 km/h in sport mode
  • Remote control included: video transmission via HD WiFi with image resolution of up to 720p at a maximum distance of 2 km

The quality of the video is truly impressive. The Dji Spark "only" delivers Full HD video at 30 frames per second, while Dji Mavic Pro (its big brother) produces 4K video at 30 frames per second. Casey Neistat compared the two models. He only had a beta version, but he was still convinced after three days, and his drone even survived a crash into a tree Casey and his drone after three days (in English)

The Dji Spark has all the shooting modes offered by the brand's other models, as well as the "Pano" function, which gives horizontal and vertical panoramic images, and the "Shallow Focus" function, which blurs the background (almost like a Bokeh effect). You'll be able to process your videos in the Dji Go 4 app for iOS or Android

  • Stable videos: mechanical image stabilisation using a dual-axis mount
  • Sharp images: powerful 25mm f/2.6 lens
  • High image quality: powerful CMOS sensor

"Palm Control" mode, control by simple gestures

You can control the Dji Spark with simple gestures, and it's really cool. No need for a remote control or smartphone. Take-off and landing are particularly easy, because the drone is ready as soon as you start it up and it hovers on its own.

A "Palm Control" mode for "dronies"

The Dji Spark reacts to the movements of your hands. It lets you steer it without a smartphone or remote control, take photos and "dronies" (the new term for selfies taken by drones).

  • It takes off and lands in the palm of your hand
  • It follows your movements
  • It can also be controlled using your smartphone
  • "Follow me" and "Active Track" modes
  • "Return Home "mode
  • To take photos, simply mime a frame with your hands

"Tap Fly" and "Active Track" modes

The "Tap Fly" mode makes flying and taking pictures even easier. Simply tap on your smartphone or the remote control, and the drone will automatically head in the direction indicated. It maintains its height and can even avoid obstacles.

The "Active Track" mode recognises the shapes and sizes of objects and follows them. It automatically adapts its speed. It can therefore follow, outrun, circle objects or track them from a fixed vantage point.

The "Active Track" mode recognises the shape and size of objects and follows them automatically.

The Dji Spark is easily controlled using hand movements and gestures.

More video reviews

Unfortunately we haven't had a chance to test it out yet, but Casey Neistat and other famous youtubers have been having a field day with it. Make yourself a coffee, get comfortable, and check out the all-new, extremely compact Dji Spark!
