Folding, E-Ink display and Magic Bay: Three unusual notebooks from Lenovo

A folding notebook without a folding display, a laptop with a rotating dual display and modules that can be attached to a notebook. Lenovo has several unusual innovations on show at CES.
In addition to classic notebooks, Lenovo will be showcasing several laptops with unusual utilisation concepts at CES 2023. The manufacturer is supplementing the classic combination of keyboard and display with additional displays or interchangeable modules.
Yoga Book 9i: Folding notebook without folding display
The two 13.3-inch OLED touchscreens of the Yoga Book 9i are connected by a hinge. If you don't want to sacrifice a screen for the keyboard, you can use the supplied external keyboard. It can also be placed on the lower screen and is held in place magnetically. Together with the stand, there are various options for placing the two screens on top of each other or next to each other.

The displays with a 2.8K resolution cover 100 per cent of the DCI-P3 colour space. Lenovo uses the latest 13th generation Core i processors from Intel. The Yoga Book 9i is expected to be available from May 2023. Exact information on equipment variants will be available by then at the latest. ThinkBook Plus Twist: OLED and e-ink display
Rotatable displays are no longer unusual in notebooks. Nevertheless, Lenovo has managed to give the ThinkBook Plus Twist a new twist. You don't move the screen along the long axis, but in the centre, where the connection to the body is. This can remain in place, including the keyboard, while you bring the colour E-Ink display on the back into view. There is also a tablet mode: the rotatable dual display can be placed on the keyboard.

The main display is a 13.3-inch OLED touchscreen with 2.8K resolution and 400 nits. The e-ink display on the back is 12 inches in size, colour and also a touchscreen. The refresh rate of 12 hertz appeared comparatively smooth for an e-ink display during demonstrations. Both displays support pens.
Lenovo uses 13th generation Intel Core i processors in the ThinkBook Plus Twist. There are no further details on the equipment. Information on availability and price is also still missing.
Magic Bay: plug-in modules for the laptop
The fourth-generation ThinkBook 16p looks like a classic notebook with a 16-inch display in 3:2 format. If it weren't for the Magic Bay. It is located on the lid of the housing, on the back of the webcam and offers the option of attaching various attachments. It uses magnets and pogo pins for this purpose.

Lenovo plans to install 13th generation Intel Core i processors and up to a mobile Nvidia Geforce RTX 4060 in the ThinkBook 16p. The internal memory comprises up to two terabytes of SSD and the RAM consists of DDR5 bars without size specification. Up to 165 Hertz and up to a 3.2K resolution are available for the display. The exact equipment variants will probably follow from May. Lenovo will then sell the ThinkBook 16p - in Switzerland from 1999 francs.
