Lego has three new sets for fans of 80s heroes. Adults will be delighted by an "Indiana Jones" diorama, while there are two sets for children aged eight and over that can be used to recreate the archaeologist's adventures.

A fifth "Indiana Jones" film will be released in cinemas this summer. Licence holder Disney and toy giant Lego want to profit in the slipstream of the revival. Three "Indiana Jones" sets have recently become available in the official Lego shop:

  • "Temple of the Golden Idol" (number 77015) is a diorama with 1545 pieces; recommended for ages 18 and up.
  • "Escape from the Tomb" (number 77013) recreates the recovery of the Ark of the Covenant; the set is for children aged eight and over and has 600 pieces.
  • "Escape from the Fighter Plane" (number 77012) contains a jeep and an aeroplane, a Pilatus P-2; the model for this comes from "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade"; there are 387 parts here for children aged eight and over.

In the 1980s, every instalment of the "Indiana Jones" trilogy was an event for me. When the films flickered across the screen on what was then still linear TV, I sat spellbound as an adolescent. The archaeologist called Indiana Jones, who sets off from the classroom on adventures in the desert and jungle - I couldn't resist Steven Spielberg's film productions. The film score by John Williams will stay in my ears forever.

So I'm pretty sure I'm now in the target group that Lego is aiming for when it soon introduces Lego sets that revive the old (and only true) "Indiana Jones" films cast in plastic blocks. It is unlikely to remain with the sets officially available from Lego on 1 April and later in our shop. As the website Stonewars.de reports, further numbers have probably already been reserved for even more "Indiana Jones" sets.

I can leave enough money at Lego for the start anyway. According to the recommended retail price, the diorama costs 150 euros or francs, while the two smaller sets are available for 35 and 40 euros or francs respectively. However, experience has shown that these prices quickly become obsolete if they are also available outside of the exclusive Lego shop.

Lego has withdrawn a set that was originally expected to be released. Will the "Temple of Doom", based on the second film in the series, still be released at a later date? At least the Lego fan scene is discussing this.
