Galaxy A53 and A33: 5G for Samsung's mid-range smartphones

5G was still the exception in the Galaxy A52. Now, the mobile standard has also become standard in Samsung's mid-range models Galaxy A53 and A33.
The cameras and the display are the most important differences in the new 5G mid-range smartphones launched today. In Switzerland, Samsung still provides them with the inexpensive Galaxy A13 as a 4G smartphone.
Display and cameras make the difference
The Galaxy A53 is slightly bigger, has a higher frame rate and a higher resolution in all five cameras (four of them on the back) than the Galaxy A33. The processor, battery and Android 12 with One UI 4.1 are identical. The same applies for the casing's water resistance according to IP67. That means: In tests, they withstood 30 minutes in one meter deep freshwater without damage.
There are small differences in the memory configuration. Both smartphones are available with six gigabytes of working memory and 128 gigabytes of internal storage. Only the Galaxy A53 also appears with eight and 256 gigabytes.

Both smartphones are supposed to receive Android updates for four generations. According to my calculations, that means up to Android 16, of course in combination with the One UI. Security updates are even supposed to be available for five years. For mid-range smartphones, this is a promise that hardly any other manufacturer has made so far.

Galaxy A13: Inexpensive 4G smartphone
The Galaxy A13 has a 6.5-inch display with Full HD+ resolution and 90 hertz refresh rate. The Exynos 850 only supports 4G and you also have to settle for four gigabytes of working memory. The internal storage with 128 gigabytes and the battery with 5000 mAh are on par with the A53 and A33. In terms of cameras, only the 50-megapixel main camera raises hopes for good image quality, while the resolution of the other two cameras is too low.
Price and availability
The Galaxy A53 5G should be available in Germany from April 1, 2022, and the Galaxy A33 5G from April 22. The recommended retail price for the A53 is 449 or 509 euros, depending on the memory configuration, and 369 euros for the A33. The same figures apply in Switzerland, but in francs. The Galaxy A13 costs 209 francs and the A53 is already available - and the other two devices are at least available for pre-order. The Galaxy A13 should be available from the beginning of April, and the A33 from mid-April.

When I was but a young student, I'd sit in my friend's living room with all my classmates and play on his SuperNES. Since then I've had the opportunity to test out all the newest technology for you. I've done reviews at Curved, Computer Bild and Netzwelt, and have now arrived at Galaxus.de.
