The cafe is finished, the license tests are over, and it's time to call it a day for Gran Turismo 7? Wait a minute, there is still the sport mode, where you can compete against other drivers in events. With our tips from this guide, you can make your car faster and win the races in multiplayer. Provided, of course, that your driving talent is up to it.
This is an article from our content partner "PC Games". You can find the original article here.
You start the sport mode of Gran Turismo 7 for the first time and your opponents are sometimes half a minute faster, although you drive flawlessly? Don't worry, your opponents aren't cheating, they've simply tuned their car. This is allowed in Sport mode, but has certain restrictions depending on the race. This guide will show you how to get the most out of your car and still drive within the rules. If you want to learn more about Gran Turismo 7, take a look at our review!
In the first of the daily races available so far, you will be given three cars. These are the Toyota Aqua S, the Mazda Demio XD Touring and the Honda Fit Hybrid. Since the Japanese High Speed Ring in Hokkaido is a course for high speeds, i.e. it has many straights and also includes curves that you can enter at a decent speed, a particularly high top speed is important. The highest top speed of the three prescribed cars is obtained with the Aqua S. So get this car if you don't already own it anyway.
Then it's off to the tuning workshop. In general, when tuning, always keep an eye on the rules of the event. If you add too many elements, you won't be allowed to compete with your car because it will bring too much kW to the start. However, there are two important parts you can use to counteract this, and you should install them in any of your cars you plan to use in Sport mode. With the engine power limiter you can counteract too much performance tuning, with the ballast you can increase the weight of the car again, should you have removed too many parts for weight reduction.
One point in ballast corresponds to one kilo. So you can bring your car exactly to the weight that the lower limit of the event prescribes. Since the Aqua can't install a turbocharger, you can install all the high quality parts you want to improve performance. For weight reduction, you only need to install stage 1. Save the rest, because even with the cheapest option you are under the 1000 kg limit. You can also do without better tires or nitrous oxide injection, as these are forbidden in the regulations for the first race. This saves you a lot of money.
Once you have installed everything, your small car will have 111 kW and 993 kg. That means you have to add 7 kg of ballast in the power adjustment and remove 1 percent from the engine power limiter so that your car complies with the rules again. With our tuning, we didn't just max out the numbers for maximum allowed power and make the car as light as it's allowed to be. We've also increased the maximum torque quite a bit. That will still benefit us on the track.
By the way, if you have fully customizable parts installed, you can try to squeeze the last bit of performance out of your car with detail tuning. You should be careful here, though, because the settings on the car's suspension have an effect on the handling. In the performance display you can see exactly how the changes affect the LP of the car. However, if you go all out here, you'll end up with a car that's difficult to control. So don't overdo it and try something until the handling suits your driving style.
Now you'll be able to win a race without starting with a technical disadvantage. So it's all down to your driving skills. By the way, you can perfect your driving skills in the single-player mode with the license tests, which get pretty steep once you reach a certain level.
For the second event, you already have a lot more options at your disposal. Of course, there are also rules that you have to follow and that you can fully exploit with our tips. However, you are no longer restricted to three special cars; you can now start with all road cars. This of course increases the possible variations enormously and you can pimp a small car off the rack to a horsepower monster. Or you can get an already powerful runabout and throttle it with ballast and the engine power limiter. Your choice.
In the future, more events and even entire championships will be held in the sport mode. With our tuning basics, you should always end up in pole position, at least technically.
