IFA 2019: Acer Swift 5 gets lighter and ConceptD gets bigger
At IFA 2019, Acer presented many new notebooks, monitors and screens for everyday use, but also especially for gamers and creatives. The new Swift 5 and the Pro models from the ConceptD series stand out in particular.
When Acer calls a press conference, the journalists follow. In the programme: Swift and ConceptD.
Light, thin and with plenty of power
The new Swift 5 is very light. At 990 grams, it is just under the kilogramme mark and was the lightest of the 14-inch laptops when it was launched - until Asus presented an even lighter 14-inch notebook a few hours later. When closed, the Swift 5 is only 14.95 millimetres thick. Nevertheless, you don't have to compromise on performance. The Intel Core i7-1065G7, from the latest tenth generation of chipsets, and an Nvidia GeForce MX250 are available in the maximum configuration. The SSD offers 512 gigabytes or one terabyte of storage space.
The 14-inch IPS touchscreen with a Full HD resolution has narrow edges on three sides and takes up 86.4 per cent of the front. The USB-C port supports Thunderbolt 3 and wireless networks are fast with the new WiFi 6 standard. The battery of the Acer Swift 3 should last up to 12.5 hours and, thanks to a quick-charging function, get enough energy for 4.5 hours of use in 30 minutes.
In addition to the Swift 5, the new Swift 3 is the only one of the new notebooks with an Intel Core i from the tenth generation. Its potential features are almost identical to the Swift 5. However, the display is not a touchscreen, the screen edges are slightly wider, the casing is slightly thicker and almost 200 grams heavier.
The Swift 3 is slightly cheaper. Acer plans to launch both from the end of September. The cheapest variants will cost 799 and 999 euros and francs respectively. However, the best configuration will cost more.
ConceptD Pro: For the professionals among the creatives
Acer realised some time ago that many users buy gaming hardware but don't actually want to play with it, but are only interested in its performance. The notebooks, monitors and PCs in the ConceptD series are designed for all these creative people - photographers, designers, video producers or architects. The notebooks are a speciality with Pantone-calibrated full HD or 4K displays and the right graphics cards.
At IFA, the ConceptD 3 Pro, ConceptD 5 Pro, Concept 7 Pro and Concept 9 Pro are four new models that differ primarily in terms of their display size and the graphics cards installed.
The flagship is the Concept 9 Pro. A mobile workstation with a 17-inch touchscreen that can be flexibly rotated in the frame. With an Intel Core i9 and an Nvidia Quadro RTX 5000, you could create your own animated film at home. The ConceptD 7 Pro, on the other hand, is a classic laptop with a 15.6-inch display and the same equipment options.
The smaller the number, the "weaker" the graphics card. In the ConceptD 4 Pro it is still a Quadro RTX 3000 and in the ConceptD 3 Pro a Quadro T1000. Acer has not yet revealed when the ConceptD Pro will be released and how much it will cost at IFA. <p
When I was but a young student, I'd sit in my friend's living room with all my classmates and play on his SuperNES. Since then I've had the opportunity to test out all the newest technology for you. I've done reviews at Curved, Computer Bild and Netzwelt, and have now arrived at Galaxus.de.
