iPhone 12 no sound issues: Apple offers free repairs

A manufacturing error in some iPhone 12 means you can’t hear received calls. Apple will fix this at no extra cost.
If the sound suddenly cuts out during a phone call on your iPhone 12, this may not necessarily be your network provider’s fault or down to bad reception. Apple established that «a very small percentage» of all iPhone 12 come with a hardware error. This is according to a support document released over the weekend. The affected iPhones were manufactured between October 2020 and April 2021.
Apple will service this problem free of charge.
If you’re affected by this hardware issue, you’ll need to get in touch with Apple. There are three ways to do this:
- Find an Apple Authorized Service Provider
- Make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store
- Get in touch with Apple Support
Apple recommends backing up your iPhone before handing it over for repair. This is because servicing can pose a risk of data loss.
Scratches and the like are not repaired. Unless the iPhone needs to undergo some serious repairs to fix the no sound issues. In other words, if your display is broken, it might have to be replaced to prevent your iPhone from falling apart after it’s been repaired. This could create costs that are charged to you. What’s more, if you bought your iPhone abroad, you might not be able to repair it locally.
